What to Say on Starting Swalah


The following are some prayers from Sahih (sound) Hadiths. They are selected particularly for being easily memorized. One can say these prayers once he enters the Salah state, i.e. after the first Takbeer (Saying:  /allaahu  akbar/).   May Allah enable us to say them regulary.

[A] You can say:

/wajjahtu  wajhiya  lil-ladee  faTaras-samaawaati  wal-arDa  haneefa(w),  wa-maa  ana  minal-mushrikeen(a)  /inna  Salaatee  wa-nusukee,  wa-mahyaaya  wa-mamaatee,  lil-laahi  rabbil-aalameen(a),  laa  shareeka  lah(u),  wa-bidaalika  umert(u),  wa-ana  minal-muslimeen/

Translation

(“I have turned my face toward him who created the heavens and the earth, as one by nature upright, and I am not of the idolaters.” “My worship and, my sacrifice and my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the Worlds. He hath no partner. This am I commanded, and I am first of those who surrender (unto Him).”

[B] You can say:

 /subhaanakal-laahumma  wa-bihamdik(a),  wa-tabaaraka-smuk(a),  wa-ta’aala  jadduk(a),  wa-laa  ilaaha  ghairuk/

Translation

(O Allah! Glory and praise be to You. Blessed be Your name, and Supreme be Your Fortune. There is no god but You.)

[C] You can add:


/allaahumma  baa’id  bainee  wa-baina  khaTaayaay(a),  kamaa  baa’atta  bainal-mashriqi  wal-maghrib/  allaahumma  naqqini  minal-khaTaayaa   kamaa  yunaqqa-aththauwbul-abyaDu  minad-danas(i)  /allaahumma-ghsil  khaTaayaay(a)  bil-maa-i  wath-ththalji  wal-barad/

Translation

(O Allah! Distance me from my sins, as you have distanced the east from the west, and wash away my sins with cool water, ice and hail, as a white garment is cleansed of all dirt.)

[D] You can also add:

/allaahumma  rabba  jibraa-eel(a)  wa-meekaa-eel(a)  wa-israfeel(a),  faaTiras-samaawaati  wal-arD(i),  aalimal-ghaibi  wash-shahaada(ti),  anta  tahkumu  baina  ibaadika  feema  kaanuu  feehi  yakhtalifuun(a),  ihdinee  lima-khtulifa  feehi  minal-haqqi  bi-idnik(a),  innaka  tahdee  man  tashaa-u  ilaa  SiraaTim-mustaqeem/

Translation

(O Allah! Lord of Gabriel, Mikhail and Israfil, Creator of the heavens and the earth, knower of the Unseen and the Seen. You will judge between Your slaves concerning matters wherein they differ. Guide me to the truth in those matters wherein they differ by Your permission, for You guide whom You will to the straight path.)

 

[E] Seeking Refuge in Allah From Satan, You Can Say The Well-Known Prayer:

 /a’uudu  bil-laahi  minash-shaiTaanir-rajeem/

Translation

(I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the outcast.)

You Can Also Say:

/a’uudu  bil-laahis-samee’il-aleem(i),  minash-shaiTaanir-rajeem(i),  min  sharri  hamzih(i)  wa-nafkhih(i)  wa-nafthih/

Translation

(I seek refuge in Allah, the All-Hearing, All-knowing, from Satan, the outcast, and from his whispers, his blowing and his Nafth.)
