What to Say on Entering or Leaving The Mosque



On entering the mosque, one should step in with his right foot saying:

Bismil-laah(i),  waS-Salaatu wa ssalaamu  alaa rasuulillah(i),  allaahumma-ftah lee abwaaba  rahmatik(a)


Translation


 In the name of Allah, and may His prayers and peace be upon Allah’s Messenger.  O Allah! Open for me the gates of Your mercy.)


On going out of the mosque, one should step out with his left foot saying:

Bismil-laah(i)  waS-Salaatu  was-salaamu  alaa  rasuulil-laah(i),  allaahumma  innee  as-aluka  min  faDlik


Translation


(In the name of Allah, and may His blessings and peace be upon Allah’s Messenger. O Allah! I am asking You to give me from Your Bounty.)


Note: “In all his affairs, the Prophet loved to start with the right side [hand/foot..]. He assigned the right for activities that are desirable, that require cleanliness or that involve beautifying, but kept the left for others.
