Travel Du’a
On riding a means of transport to start a journey, one
should follow the Prophet’s example. Whenever the Prophet mounted his camel to
set out on a journey, he glorified Allah three times:
Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu
Akbar, Allaahu Akbar
Subhaanal-ladhee sakh-khara lanaa hadaa, wamaa kunnaa lahu muqrineen, wa-innaa ilaa rabbinaa lamunqalibuun” allaahumma inna nas-aluka fee
safirinaa haadal-birra waat-taqwaa, wa-mial-amali maa tarDaa, allaahumma
hawwin alainaa safaranaa, wa Twi annaa bu;dah, allaahumma
antaS-Saahibu fis-safar, wal-khaleefa(tu) fil-ahal(i), allaahumma innee auudu bika
miw-wathaa-issafar(i),
wa-ka-aabatil- manZar(i), wa-suu-il-munqalab(i), fil-maali
wal-ahli(i)
Translation
(Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest
Glorified be He Who hath subdued these unto us, and we were
not capable (of subduing them); And lo!
Unto our Lord we are returning.” O
Allah, we seek virtue and piety from You on this journey, and deeds that
pleases You. O Allah, facilitate our travel and make its distance easy for us. O Allah, You are the travel Companion, and
the family Guardian. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of the
journey, from the gloominess of sights,
and from finding misfortunes in
property or family on our return.)
